Gate 35 :

Progress

Change in Motion

Gate 35 is the Throat’s urge to keep life moving forward—seeking new experiences, sharing what’s learned, and turning “lessons on the road” into collective progress.

Gate 35 brings an insatiable appetite for progress. You’re not here to repeat the past—you’re here to explore what’s possible. You thrive on new experiences, variety, and fresh perspectives, often learning best by doing and then sharing what you’ve learned. Your stories carry wisdom that can spark change in others.

But this isn’t about change for change’s sake. Real progress, in your design, comes from purposeful action that benefits not just yourself but your wider world. If you jump too quickly into new experiences without discernment or reflection, you may end up feeling scattered or dissatisfied. Your power lies in recognizing which experiences are worth pursuing—and when to walk away. Through that discernment, your voice becomes one of evolution, possibility, and transformation.

Gift: A pioneer’s appetite for variety. It says “Yes, let’s see what happens,” then communicates the take-aways so everybody can move on a little wiser.
Shadow: Change for change’s sake, restlessness that tramples others, or burnout when inspiration dries up.
Growth: Pause and sense whether the next adventure serves a genuine purpose or just scratches an itch. Balance personal ambition with community benefit—progress sticks when others are on board. Welcome ebbs in creativity as part of the cycle; use them to harvest insights from past experiences.

With Gate 35 defined you’re built to say “Yes” often—just add a moment of discernment: Does this new road serve a larger story I want to tell? When the answer is “Yes,” your adventures become a shared map instead of a personal detour.

WHAT ARE "LINES"?

Each Gate has six “lines”. They are represented by the number after the decimal for each gate (3.4, 10.2, 41.3, etc.).

Each Line carries a different “flavor” of a gate’s energy. The Lines are determined by the precise planetary placements on your bodygraph chart. Some placements can change lines every 12 minutes!

The 6 Lines are derived from the Chinese I’Ching’s Hexagrams.

Lines 1, 2, and 3 are energies for more personal, individual growth.

Lines 4, 5, and 6 are energies for growth through, or for, the outside world.

Lines of Gate 35

Line 1: Humility

Progress starts with accepting that rejection or detours are normal; the healthy ego adjusts, the insecure one feels humiliated.

Line 2: Creative Block

Inspiration comes and goes; patience or small actions keep things moving, whereas panic over “stuckness” stalls progress.

Line 3: Collaboration

Realizes bigger change happens by weaving others’ talents together; the shadow needs to be the star and forgets the team.

Line 4: Hunger

An insatiable appetite for the next step propels rapid growth; unchecked, it can trample boundaries or chase perks at others’ expense.

Line 5: Altruism

Communicates principles of harmony so everyone benefits; may secretly mourn opportunities lost to personal sacrifice.

Line 6: Rectification

Uses experience and ambition to fix what’s not working and steer progress; if applied harshly, cures become worse than the disease and meet resistance.

Gate 35 Hexagram

About the Hexagrams and the i'ching

The 64 gates in the Human Design system correspond directly to the 64 hexagrams of the I’Ching, an ancient Chinese system of wisdom and divination. Each hexagram is a six-line figure made up of a combination of yin (broken) and yang (solid) lines. Together, they form symbolic representations of natural patterns, life themes, and human experiences.

In Human Design, the hexagrams are interpreted as energetic frequencies. Each gate on the BodyGraph carries the energetic signature of one hexagram, expressing its core essence through the mechanics of our design. The Gates are “activated” based on your time of birth. This determines your natural gifts, challenges, and ways of engaging with the world.

Hexagrams are traditionally read from the bottom line (Line 1) to the top (Line 6)—a progression that shows how energy or awareness develops over time. This structure is mirrored in Human Design Profiles, which are also built on combinations of these six lines.

Together, the 64 hexagrams form a complete map of human potential. It is encoded in the genetic structure of DNA and mirrored in the cosmos in the Human Design Mandala. Each one is a lens through which we can understand a specific part of what it means to be human.

Planetary Placements

The unique energies and symbolism for each gate

Planetary placements describe which gate each planet was activating at the moment of your birth. The position of the planets in the sky leaves a distinct energetic imprint, creating your personal energetic blueprint.

Each planet is expressed twice in the chart: once in the conscious (right) column and once in the unconscious (left).

Right Side of Your Chart: energies you’re more aware of – like personality traits, behaviors, quirks

Left Side of Your Chart: unconscious patterns and inherited traits you may not recognize but others clearly see.

Together, these planetary activations activate your gates, define your channels, and ultimately determine your energy type, strategy, and authority.
