inner Authorities

Decision-Making Styles

What is an "inner Authority"?

In Human Design, Inner Authority is about tuning into ourselves and learning how we are uniquely wired to make decisions and find clarity. There are two kinds of Authority in Human Design:

  1. Outer Authority: Experiences and info you collect from the outside world. Shaped by our environment and other people, it reflects our mind but not our “true self”. The Mind tries to convince us that it should control decision-making, but that’s not its job. Relying on our Mind/Logic means we’re not listening to our true self. Outer Authority is useful for gaining insights from your experiences and sharing those insights with others.
  2. Inner Authority: Your personal, internal sense of what’s right for you. We’re taught to value logic – what can be proven and explained. The Inner Authority is not based in logic or experiences – it’s rooted in our unique energy system and guides us to more aligned choices. The thoughts, experiences, external influences, and worries in daily life can obstruct or distort the signals our Inner Authority is sending.
